The VdS laboratory for fire detection technology examines the entire range of products, which are used in the area of fire detection – from smoke alarms for private areas up to fire alarm centres, from individual alarm components up to the correct and compliant interaction of all devices within a fire alarm system.
Stationary extinguishing systems are complex combinations of devices such as storage, fire detection, control, triggering devices and manifold pipe systems etc. To ensure reliable operation all the components used are tested by the various VdS guidelines and - if available - according to EN standards.
The deadliest + most destructive danger in case of fire: Not the flames themselves, but the highly toxic smoke. These facts make smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems, which immediately dissipate the poisonous gases that contaminate everything and the heat stored in them in the event of an emergency, an essential component of every safety concept.

The services in our laboratory for hold-open systems include, amongst others. inspections of all system components in accordance with the requirements of the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). These include power supplies, systems for fire detection, hold-open devices and systems, surveillance of closing areas (light barriers etc.) and release mechanisms for releasing the connected hold-open devices for fire-resistant closures.
The VdS laboratories are also approved ETI-agents for the areas of electrical and mechanical locking systems for doors in emergency escape routes and door closers with automatic opening.
A VdS approval confirms the interference immunity of products against various environmental influences. The VdS infrastructure which is unique in Europe as well as our advanced and continuously improved service benefits (e.g. high frequency tests up to three Gigahertz, low-frequency disturbances on power lines, studies of radio-transmission-sercurity) can also be used even in the development stage.
The VdS electrodynamic shaker serves for a wide range of test specifications as vibration up to 2,000 Hertz, single and continuous shocks or broadband noise. In addition to selection, implementation and documentation of tests, we can manufacture in our own workshop individual holders and brackets as preparation for tests. The reliable programming of security equipment is tested and certified by VdS quality and safety, we examine the source code as well as the program documentation.
