Since 22.04.24, FIS® has been a registered trademark in the EU and in various other countries. VdS has now also successfully registered the corresponding word and figurative mark (FIS® logo) with the relevant trademark office, thereby securing protection for it.
This is an important step towards further strengthening and protecting the identity and positioning of VdS in the market. The change from Schutzgrad to FIS® resulted from various workshops with GDV insurance companies. In addition to the advantage as a unique selling point for VdS, the old term led to confusion in the insurance world, especially among business people.
Insurers value the FIS® because it gives them a reliable statement in the form of a percentage value about the quality of the extinguishing system. Only the VdS Technical Inspection Service can do this in the form of the FIS®. In order to guarantee its legal protection, we ask you for a careful usage.
What does this mean in concrete terms?
- Review of third parties: Should you notice that our trademark or similar elements are used by competitors or other external parties, please report it immediately to fis@vds.de.

Protecting our trademark prevents it from being used by competitors or others, which should secure our competitive advantage and promote our trust with customers and partners. Registering the trademark gives us exclusive rights of use and strengthens our position in the market.
