Laboratory for Hold-Open Systems

VdS is an approved institution for testing, inspection and certification under the regional building regulations of North Rhine-Westphalia for the areas of construction products for hold-open devices, electrical-locking systems for doors in escape routes, smoke-detectors, SHEV control devices / SHEV manual control devices and door closers with automatic opening (swing door systems) in accordance with DIN 18263 part 4.

The services in our laboratory for hold-open systems comprises of, amongst others, tests for all system components of hold-open devices and systems according to the specifications of the German Institute for Building Technology. These include power supplies, sensor elements for fire detection, hold-open devices, closing area surveillance (photoelectric sensors etc.) and release mechanisms for releasing the connected hold-open devices for fire-resistant closures.

VdS is also approved by the building certification body (Notified Body) according to the EU Construction Products Regulation and registered under the code no. 0786.

The notification includes, the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (system 1) for door closing devices with controlled closing sequence (also for use on fire doors) and electrical hold-open devices for swing doors according to the harmonised standards EN 1154 and EN 1155. After successful completion of the process VdS issues a "certificate of constancy of performance".
